Business Opportunity for Prospective Shop Owners

Hello everyone.

This post in my weekly truck technology Google Alert gives me an idea for those of us who would like to own a shop but don't want the headaches of working on anything that rolls in or gets dragged to the door. Not to mention hassles with finding repair information, finding good help, or dealing with disgruntled customers.

Do you live in a metro area with plenty of sizable trucking companies?

Why not think about the possibility of doing technology, fuel-saving, and driver-assist installations?

Check out this article for instance.

                                                 in-house or outsource?

Think about all the possibilities as you watch trucks on the road and in the shop.
  • APU's
  • Parking, blind spot, and security cameras
  • Aero aids on tractors and trailers
  • GPS units
  • Wireless (bluetooth) connected devices
  • Specialty and augmented lighting
  • Anti-theft and remote start
These are just a few examples I have come up with after just a few minutes. I'm sure everyone can come up with more.

The beauty of the business is that it often could be set up as an assembly line process  with labor less skilled than general mechanics. It would also be contract-type work, so the hassles about payment would be less, labor and equipment cost would be less, and there would be few hassles trying to find good installation information. Most of the equipment would be new or late model.

Thanks for reading, and check out the above tabs for repair books. Check back in the next couple of months for release of the DT466 no start diagnostic book.
